Background of the Image Bank
The Menno Simons Image Bank is based upon an initiative by Prof. Piet Visser, Professor of Mennonite History at the Vrije University in Amsterdam. In view of the numerous positive reactions from colleagues and specialists all across the globe, the IMSC has ambitiously carried on with this plan. The Menno Simons Image Bank is located at the library of the University of Amsterdam, which guarantees its maintenance and continuity.

World-wide collaboration
In the digitalization project, we not only work with volunteers, we also work with professional institutions such as municipal and regional archives. The institutions we collaborate with include Tresoar in Leeuwarden and the Special Collections at the University Library. It is our intention to approach this project internationally. But we are starting in the Netherlands to gain experience and because there is still so much work to be done here.
